Warm sunshine and blooming flowers, we love Greece in spring!

Dear friend

Blessed with warm sunshine, sparkling seas, and delicious seasonal cuisine, springtime in Greece will take your breath away. Amid the lush green vegetation, wildflowers and herbs burst into life, covering the landscape in a riot of color and filling the air with their rich, fragrant aromas. There’s nothing more enchanting than Greece in full bloom.

If you’re looking to beat the summer heat and avoid the crowds associated with high season, a spring walking break on a Greek island may be just the ticket. But with dozens of islands to chose from (277 inhabited islands, according to the Greek National Tourism Organization), where do you start?

Well we have created 3 walking holiday itineraries around our 7 favourite islands in the Cyclades…

Here’s our pick of 7 islands that are best enjoyed without the bustling crowds of summer…

#1-3: Naxos, Iraklia & Amorgos, in the Small Cyclades…

Naxos is the largest and richest, in terms of natural wealth, island of the Cyclades while the Small Cyclades until recently, were very isolated so they still remain unspoilt… a small heaven of peace, Greek hospitality and traditional culture.

Join our 10-day guided or self-guided walking holiday on Naxos, Iraklia and Amorgos and…

  • Explore an infinite network of traditional marble-paved mule-tracks and hidden valley paths,
  • Experience traditional Greek countryside, orchards, gardens, dramatic coastlines
  • Visit monasteries, Byzantine chapels with rare frescoes, ancient monuments…

  • Reach and swim at remote solitary beaches and coves with crystal clear waters,

  • Walk to the highest mountain of the Cyclades, Mount Zas, where Olympian god Zeus grew to manhood,

  • Walk to magical parts of the islands that you would never discover on your own,

  • Learn about the local herbs and plants, birds and other members of the animal kingdom, above and under the water!

  • Sample organic, home-made food locally produced wherever you eat,

  • Experience customs and traditions, cultural happenings, local feasts with Cycladic music and dance…

# 4 and #5: Andros & Tinos islands

Andros is certainly one of the least crowded and most varied. It only takes a two hour boat trip from Athens to reach the island, and the harbour of Rafina is only 20 minutes away from the international airport of Athens.

Ancient monasteries, old villages and Isolated beaches are scattered along the coast all over the island; archeological rests from the Byzantinan period to the Hellenic are still today very well visible.

In comparison to the rest of the Cyclades it rains a lot at Andros and there are numerous rivers, streams, springs and waterfalls. As a result Andros isremarkably green and characterised by a rich flora and diverse landscape which are waiting for you to be explored. We like to combine a walking holiday at Andros with Tinos.

Tinos will impress you with its numerous deserted ancient paths and trails, traditional villages, the architecture of its countless pigeon houses, windmills and countless churches, stone walls, fountains, giant rocks with strange shapes…

#6 and #7: Volcanic Milos and authentic Sifnos will fascinate you

Volcanic Milos will enchant you with its diversity, coastal morphology and rare geological formations… with its 75 beaches,  crystal, deep blue waters, picturesque harbors and colorful volcanic rocks…

Sifnos will impress you with its traditional villages, small churches with blue domes, Venetian castle, ancient ruins, an inexhaustible variety of beautiful hiking trails which lead to tranquil sandy beaches, delicious local food and wine…

Based at the picturesque village of Ano Petali, you will walk on ancient paths and trails, enjoy astonishing coastal sceneries and landscapes with abandoned terraces, ruined pigeon houses, bridges, steep rocky cliffs, springs and small gorges… you’ll get familiar with wild herbs and flowers… come across endemic wildlife… and reach remote virgin beaches with crystal clear waters.
